Salt on Earth

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men” (Matthew 5:13)

How in the world can salt lose its flavor?

I’ve often thought about that. That’s pretty much impossible. Salt is a mineral. It never loses its flavor. My friend, if the salt in your house, one day, goes flavorless…guess what….it was just imitation salt to begin with!

That is exactly the point that Jesus is trying to make. Being a prophet, he knew that, in the years to come, the churches around the world would be filled with so many false converts. (wolves in sheep’s clothing). So, Jesus is using salt (which can never lose its flavor unless it’s imitation) as a metaphor to warn us about having a FAKE relationship with Him. Comprende?

Speaking of imitation salt. A famous author recently announced that she’s “quitting” Christianity (SMH).

Author Anne Rice, who wrote the story behind “Interview with a Vampire”,

supposedly got saved in 1998.

The public made a BIG deal about her “conversion” and many Christian ministries brought her in to share her testimony. In fact, she was one of the main celebs included in the I AM SECOND campaign. As of  today, the video  testimony of her “conversion” still remains on the I AM SECOND website. But now, the salt is flavorless. Lately, she’s been spewing a lot of venom against Christianity. Check out a recent tweet by Anne Rice on her Twitter page:

“For those who care, and I understand if you don’t: Today I quit being a Christian … It’s simply impossible for me to ‘belong’ to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten years, I’ve tried. I’ve failed. I’m an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else.”

Those are harsh words but they shouldn’t surprise the church. Christ warned us in His word that many would fall away, never to return. She, obviously, has had some problems with unloving church goers. But, is that the REAL reason why she’s leaving the faith? Certainly not. Apostates are born out of a hatred of being conformed into the image of Christ, not because of rough seas among  church folk. No matter what she might state as her reasons for leaving Christianity, we KNOW the TRUTH. According to the word, the deep down issue is CHRIST…. and him alone.

“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.  (matthew 12:30, words of Christ)

A genuine child of God can backslide but they can never just “quit.”

How can true Christians lose their saltiness?

How can true christians leave their 1st love (CHRIST) and never return?

My friend…its impossible.

“They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us” (1 John 2:19)
